Science without Conscience is but the Ruin of the Soul </h1>
<br />
<p>While religion tells us that a force higher than nature affects our existence, science tries to formalise the laws of natural phenomena in terms of cause and effect, to explain how without explaining why in the laws of the universe. </p>
<p>If “ignorance is the mother of all evil”, “science without conscience is but the ruin of the soul” wrote Francois Rabelais as early as in 1532, which leads one to the bioethic question and globally to the reintroduction of spirituality into secularity. </p>
<p>Albert Camus said that rationalism stops where faith begins, which is not contradictory if, as Tariq Ramadan would add, “these two elements, evidently distinct, are absolutely complimentary: no roots for faith without the presence of rationalism, and no applicable rationalism without the light of faith”.</p>
<p>As the fields covered by science expand, religion and metaphysics must constantly reset their boundaries. Wisdom only will allow us to focus on ethics when we move towards the moral nihilism that can so easily absorb us.</p>
