<p>Six milliards d’individus, bientôt huit et peut-être dix milliards… comment dès lors continuer à nous nourrir ?</p>
<p>Alors que les OGM connaissent une forte et légitime opposition, leurs promoteurs prétendent que ceux-ci permettraient de résoudre le problème de la faim dans le monde… Il est néanmoins fort probable que cette ambition de pouvoir nourrir la planète grâce aux progrès de la transgénèse ne soit davantage un argument promotionnel avancé par les firmes biotechnologiques en vue de développer leurs OGM refusés par certains consommateurs. </p>
<p>Mais le problème est peut-être tout autre dans les pays du Tiers Monde car la famine n’y est pas une notion, elle y est une réalité et les États ne sauraient se fermer à des technologies porteuses d’un potentiel pouvant leur garantir une solution au problème de la malnutrition. Cependant, comme l’affirment beaucoup d’ONG, la principale cause de la famine est la mauvaise distribution des richesses car celle-ci n’est pas tant liée aux problèmes de manque de nourriture dans le monde, même dans les pays souffrant de la faim, que due au fait qu’on ne permette pas à la population pour des raisons d’ordre politique et économique d’accéder aux ressources alimentaires. De plus il faut savoir qu’aujourd’hui les aliments transgéniques enrichis en vitamine A ne sont encore qu’en phase de test, font l’objet d’une controverse scientifique quant à leur réelle efficacité et que les problèmes des droits de la propriété et des brevets restent posés quant à leur possible distribution.<br />
